A guide to renovating a home in Singapore: what to do, in what order, and what the rules say.

Who runs it

SpaceToReno is run by the team behind Junk to Clear, a Singapore company established in 2009 under SKAP Waste Management Pte. Ltd. Junk to Clear handles clear-outs and disposal, and renovation work too. Its partner crews do the work, and Junk to Clear quotes, books and answers for each job.

SpaceToReno is one of the OurKampung family of sites, run by the same team: guides like OurKampung itself, and services for moving, cleaning, repairs, aircon and pest control. A guide links to one of them only at the step that calls for it.

How we link to our own businesses

  • A guide links to Junk to Clear or a sister site only at a step that needs that service, such as getting quotes for the works or clearing a flat before hacking starts, and the sentence says it’s ours.
  • A guide links to our own businesses at most twice.
  • We never rank or review our own businesses against anyone else’s, and we don’t publish “best interior designer” or “best contractor” lists.

How the guides are researched

  • Rules come from the official source: HDB, BCA, URA, EMA, PUB, SCDF, NEA, the Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) and Singapore Statutes Online. Each guide lists and links its sources.
  • Where something depends on your condo’s by-laws or your contract rather than the law, we say so and tell you to check.
  • We don’t publish prices, durations or statistics we can’t source. Where a guide talks about cost, it explains what drives it.
  • Each guide shows the date it was last checked. Rules change, and if a source says something different from a guide, the source is right.

Privacy

Analytics. SpaceToReno uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which guides help people. It records the pages you view, how you arrived (from a search, for example), how far you scroll, which links to other sites you click, and your device, browser and approximate location. It uses first-party cookies to tell visits apart. It doesn’t collect your name or contact details. You can opt out on any site with Google’s opt-out browser add-on.

Enquiries. If you send an enquiry, the form sends what you enter (your property type, timing, the rooms or works, any details and budget range you add, your name and number) through FormSubmit, the form service we use, to the team behind Junk to Clear. They use it only to reply to your enquiry and arrange a quote, and don’t sell it. Google Analytics records that an enquiry was sent, not what was in it.

Your rights. Under Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act you can ask to see or correct the details you sent us, or withdraw your consent to our using them. Use the form below and choose “A privacy request”.
